Capricorn One (1978)
When the head of NASA’s manned Mars missions discovers that the capsule meant to carry the astronauts will suffer a catastrophic failure, he forces the three astronauts to participate in a hoax by broadcasting their ‘Mission’ from a studio built at a now abandoned air force base. Over the many months of the mission, the astronauts send broadcasts to Earth on their progress and all goes well until their space capsule burns up on re-entry. They soon realize that the only way for the hoax to be maintained is for them to die and they make a desperate attempt to escape their captors. Throughout this period, an investigative reporter gets wind of the fact that something is amiss with man’s first mission to Mars and slowly puts together the pieces of the mystery.

This movie is indeed a noteworthy sci-fi/conspiracy flick, even after all these years. Based on the real-life “moon hoax” pseudo-conspiracy, it takes the issue one step further and explores just how far your government might go to cover up its own incapacity and silence everyone who gets in its way.
Writer/Director Hyams has build himself one slick, fast-paced thriller from a script conceived during his CBS reporter days covering Vietnam. It was there that he envisioned how easy it could be for a huge government to cover up anything it wished. James Brolin, OJ Simpson and Sam Waterson as the unfortunate astronauts turn in convincing performances as men forced to deceive the world – including their families – against their wishes. Gould, as the witty and quick thinking reporter, produces the most colourful characterisation of his entire career. I don’t think this film has aged badly. Still a favourite of mine.
i agree with dreameer as i said before in my comment aldrin and armstrong did not ever go to the moon.alan shepard and crew were the first on the moon.my qpinion.
Still no one landed on moon. Check the “van allen rays” and radiation on moon, and is there any reason why still Russian don’t landed on moon. it’s all about winning the cold war 45 years back
