The Big Picture: Atomic Bomb
War: guns firing, tanks - Military Sgt. sits at a desk and addresses the audience. Atomic bomb footage- mushroom cloud. A new unit is introduced into the Army called the Pentomic Unit. This unit will be shaped and trained to take on the enemy on an atomic battle field. Desert Rock, Nevada- where the last atomic bomb went off the Pentomic Unit was called out for the first time. “Troop Test Smoky”- soldiers are told that this is a training exercises it and listen to a lecture covering safety issues of the A bomb.
They learn about exposure, how to protect themselves and run through practice drills. There are three things that are taught to this unit: mobility, effective communication and heavy fire power. The battle group arrives by train and camp Desert Rock is a post. Tents are full and troops are setting up and prepping for the bomb that will be going off.
